WHAT IS AN AUTONOMIC STATE?
The autonomic nervous system is the automatic part of your nervous system– it functions without you having to direct it. It beats your heart, breathes your lungs, pump your blood, digests your food, maintains your body temperature: all of the bodily functions that happen in the background. It also dramatically re-tunes your body based on whether or not you feel safe, in danger, or under lifethreat. It has the strongest shaping force of any biological system over our lived felt experience.
It governs our inner landscape in each and every moment: our sense of self, how it feels in our bodies, our emotional range, the way we think, how we perceive the world around us, and how we behave. Take a moment just to absorb all of that.
Learning to read the map of your Autonomic Nervous System, and to give it the inputs it requires for flourishing puts you in the driver's seat– in charge of the most powerful levers that govern your moment-to-moment experience of wellbeing.
