YEARLONG AUTONOMICS PRACTICUM ⌖ APPLICATION

Before you submit the form, read what follows. It is written to help you assess fit accurately.

THE PRACTICUM AND WHO IT IS FOR

The practicum is highly experiential and idea-rich. Seminars draw practitioners from transdisciplinary backgrounds, largely in wellness fields — previous cohorts have included physicians, physical and occupational therapists, naturopathic doctors, doctors of social work, masters-level clinicians, bodyworkers, educators, and life and wellness coaches. Participants arrive from multiple continents and a wide range of cultures.

We are looking for practitioners willing to be intellectually and emotionally engaged with this content — people seeking rigorous preparation who are equally willing to engage with the material experientially. The work requires the ability to remain present with the discomfort that comes from studying habitual patterns of defense, and to stay available and curious about those patterns. The work is graduate-level. We are also looking for applicants who have an existing professional context in which to deploy what they are learning.

LEARNING CULTURE

The seminar meets weekly for two hours. Homework runs one to two hours between sessions — primarily written or video content.

People encountering our work for the first time consistently find these contexts more relational and more intensive than traditional academic settings, by a significant margin. We operate as an apprenticeship and guild. We spend significant time tending to context. There is a great deal of idea exchange, and conversations sometimes become passionate.

Fit with our learning culture matters as much as academic or professional background. That is part of what this application is assessing.

Learning takes place in the primary cohort of twelve, and in smaller dyads and triads within that group.

PRIOR PRACTICE

We are looking for practitioners who bring some background in mindful awareness, somatics, or embodiment practice — people who have already invested significant time developing a relationship with their inner worlds.

This is not a program in which that work begins.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU SUBMIT

Applications are reviewed in the order they are received. If your application advances, you will interview with the faculty member teaching your seminar. If you advance through the interview, you will meet a small number of fellow applicants in a test class.

Admission is offered on a rolling basis. For the past three years, the practicum has filled. Submit as soon as you know you intend to apply.

If offered admission, your place is held for one week. Monthly installments are the default payment structure — $1,000 per month over the course of the year.

If what you have read describes the kind of work you are looking for, submit the form.
